Final Presentation

We did our presentation on Monday, I was nervous but felt it went well overall. I stayed within the 7 minutes and managed to show all of the site within that time frame. The feedback I got was that the site needed more writing, this was something that crossed my mind in the production process but I fel that what I wrote was what I wanted on the site and anything else would be just padding. The feedback did raise a good point...that on initial glance, without reading the text... it isn't defined what type of upcycling website this is....so I will therefore change the main home page heading to 'We upcycle everything.' This should make it clearer. Also...the Sitemap...I changed the font to be different because I thought that the sitemap should be different and a more basic font. However, I now know that this does not need to be the case. So I may change that to a more similar font to my contact page.

Image

I managed to fix issue with shoe image today. I will go into college early tomorrow and update online Github version before the presentation at 9. Image was in wrong position in list of pictures in html and I fixed this by moving it into correct position and then targeting the image and not just the div in css.

Testing

I tested my website and wrote up my report today. I wrote an extensive report testing every aspect of my website - colours, fonts, loading etc. I am totally happy with my site excluding one picture of a shoe. My whole website looks exactly how I want it to in Chrome....However, when I open it up in any other browser - Safari, Explorer or Microsoft Edge....the pic of the shoe goes out of place and affects the layout of the whole page...I have tried replacing the image but the same thing happened. I will ask the lecturer about this on Monday. I uploaded my report and presentation to Moodle.

New updates

I made some more updates...I fixed the map so that it is visible online and I sorted out navigation so that it shows you what page the user is on. I then re-uploaded to Github and everything is updated online. I also made Facebook, Instagram and header logos smaller, I feel that they look much better now. The website as a whole looks better. I sent it off to my friend who owns the upcycling business that I am doing the website for and she is really happy so I'm delighted. She hasn't asked to change anything on the website so that's a good sign also.

Update

I updated a few small things on my website. So I re-submitted it now. I wanted to add to my Sitemap. The version of the website on GitHub, the map is missing, I will need to ask lecturer about this on Thursday. I got an api key but I can't seem to get it working.

Submitted

I came in at 8 am this morning to fix some things in my site that I couldn't do at home. I submitted it on time. I am happy with the overall outcome of the site. I achieved what I set out to do. I tried some other fancy bits and pieces with my site but I kept coming back to my original design. I tried out backgrounds on my navigation but I feel it looks neater how it is now.

Development part 2

Unfortunately my Eir internet decided to go in my house Thursday night. I called Eir Friday morning and they called me back Friday evening to say there was nothing they could do and to call back Monday. So I was googling things on my phone using data and trying to implement things in Brackets offline, This has really slowed down my website development and I'm not as far along as I had hoped I would be at this point. Today I drove to my parents house an hour away to use their wifi. Hopefully I will make some headway today. I really want to get this project done to the best of my ability within the deadline of tomorrow.

Development

I made some good headway on my site today. I put in the work today to get the basics done. I will style it better over the coming days. But, so far I have uploaded all of the images to their corresponding pages. On Monday I filled out the contact page and today I added links within images to Facebook and Instagram. I also added some content that I wrote last night. The images speak for themselves but each page has a headline and a short description. I also added a search bar today. I added Polaroid frames to the images on my home page. I also added and adjusted all of the navigation to ensure all links were correct and linking to their correct pages.

Presentation

I did my presentation today. Overall I was happy with it and how it went. I tried my best to engage the audience. I was nervous but I got through it for the 7 minutes. I can concentrate on building my website now.

Perfecting my Powerpoint Presentation

I am putting the final touches on my powerpoint presentation today. I will practice doing my presentation at home over the weekend. I am adding to my Moodboard which I have created in InDesign and putting finishes touches on logo that I made in Illustrator. I have now uploaded my powerpoint presentation to Moodle and it has been submitted, I am happy with my Powerpoint Presentation so I just need to practice presenting it for 7 minutes now.

Extension

We got an extension until Monday today. I will take this because we have a 3D Graphics exam on Thursday.

Web dev Powerpoint presentation

Today I've made good progress on my Powerpoint presentation for Thursday. I have 13 pages of the presentation done out. These mostly involve the layout of my site. Plus I did the mockups in Balsamiq and put the finishing touches on my logo. I also created a moodboard. I am happy with the direction I am going in. I feel that the logo worked out well. It's a grafitti style writing and a trash can with a crown on it. The name of my friend's brand is 'Fresh Garbage' so I feel that the logo works well.

Me, Myself and I

Starting my second web development project today. Going to do it on a topic that I am interested in, it's 'Upcycling'. My friend has a successful upcycling business which she runs from her Facebook page. I am really interested in creating a website for her. I think it could look really good and I have already chatted with her about it. I have permission to use any of the images on her Facebook page and I have started creating the logo. I downloaded the 'Fresh Prince' font and installed it, her company is called 'Fresh Garbage' so I think this font will work well.
